4 Tips to Lighten Stains on Sinks, Tubs, and Toilet Bowls

When it comes to cleaning, it can be frustrating to see visible and permanent stains on your surfaces. For example, most stains on sinks, tubs, and toilet bowls are easy to remove. But rust, water, and human activity may leave stubborn marks that will take more than elbow grease to remove. Additionally, industrial household cleaners may do the trick in eliminating tough stains and odors, but they are toxic and abrasive.

Fortunately, there are less toxic ways to keep your toilets, sinks, and bathtub spotless, such as these four ways:

Use White Vinegar

A Filipino household won’t be complete without white vinegar. It is a crucial ingredient for well-loved dishes such as adobopaksiwkilawin, and lumpiang sariwa. But aside from adding a tangy and sour hint to your favorite foods, white vinegar is an excellent natural cleaner for your kitchen and bathroom.

The citric acid of vinegar disinfects and whitens surfaces. Since they’re natural, you don’t have to worry about damaging your stair handrail and kitchen countertops in your Amaris Homes townhouse. And despite its sour and pungent smell, vinegar isn’t that toxic even when you inhale it.

Scrub with Baking Soda and Borax

If you want to strengthen your vinegar’s cleaning power, combine it with borax or baking soda. This cleaning scrub helps remove stains that won’t budge off your surfaces. Apply this mixture on the nooks and crannies of your sink and toilet bowl, and clean with an old toothbrush.

For the inside of your toilet bowl, sprinkle borax or baking soda deliberately. Then, pour one-half cup of vinegar inside. Let the cleaning solution sit for 15 to 30 minutes to break down the stains and eliminate them. Flush your toilet and rinse the excess vinegar, borax, and baking soda away.

Clean with Cola

Your favorite cola drink might not be the healthiest, but it sure is refreshing and delicious. But other than going well with your favorite merienda, cola is excellent for cleaning rust, water stains, and limescale. Plus, you might have an excuse to ditch all sugary and carbonated drinks to motivate you on your health journey!

Pour cola in your sink, tub, or toilet bowl. If their edges have stains, pour some cola on those areas too. Leave the cola solution overnight before rinsing. You’ll notice that some stains will lighten even without scrubbing!

Use a Pumice Stone

Steel wools and brushes may scratch and damage your porcelain fixtures’ surfaces. If you need extra scrubbing, use a pumice stone instead. These are made of natural volcanic rock and are gentle enough to clean your toilet, sink, or bathtub without damaging them.

Apply your bathroom and kitchen cleaners or natural cleansers on your porcelain surface. Wet your pumice stone then rub it against the stains. You’ll remove tough marks and dirt while also polishing your bathroom and kitchen fixtures.

For most homes, the bathroom and kitchen are two areas that must be kept clean and sanitized. Stain-free and disinfected fixtures provide aesthetics and clean devices that ensure health and wellness. Use these four tips to lighten and clean your sinks, bathtubs, and toilet bowls.
