5 Hacks to Fix and Prevent Faulty Paint Jobs

The invention of paint has changed the way homes and buildings look throughout the years. Many brands have introduced different paint styles suitable for all surfaces. Some are even eco-friendly and less harmful to humans and the environment. You’ll also find house paint with interesting finishes and textures intended for accents and additional touches.

But whichever paint you choose, it is crucial to prepare your surfaces and practice proper painting techniques to avoid chipping, peeling, chalking, and unsightly brush strokes. That said, here are five hacks to avoid faulty paint jobs in the future:

Prime Before Painting

To fix a faulty paint job, priming your surface before painting is vital. Doing so prepares a clean canvas for the paint to cling well. If your wall or furniture has glossy finishes or bumpy parts, sand them down first to create flat and slightly textured surfaces. The small grooves caused by sanding will help the paint stick better, thus preventing peeling, cracking, and wrinkling.

Priming your surface with one to two coats also results in brighter and opaque-looking paint finishes.

Add Enough Layers

If you’re struggling with dull, patchy, or splotchy paint jobs at your Idesia Dasmariñas home, chances are you’re not adding enough paint layers. Depending on what you’re painting, one to two coats might not be enough to cover all areas and create a clean, solid color. A third coat usually does the trick, but adding more may cause your paint to peel or have uneven areas.

Wait for your first paint layer to dry before adding the second and third coats. Doing so will prevent paint from peeling and wrinkling. You’ll also avoid the appearance of air bubbles and pockets underneath each layer.

Pop Air Bubbles

Sometimes, air bubbles will appear as you paint your surfaces. Air bubbles or pockets usually happen because of heat and moisture. It is best to address these problems first to reduce the appearance of bubbles and blisters. Some solutions include cleaning the area to be painted first, then leaving it to completely dry before painting.

For repainting jobs, scrape the bubbles off your wall first then sand it down. Use a wide paint roller to cover more areas and to save time while painting. Wait for the first layer to dry, then add another coat.

Use Painter’s Tape

Clean and crisp edges can be a challenge to make, especially if you have shaky hands. One way to achieve the perfect straight edge on your walls is to use painter’s tape. These are water-resistant and adhere well to surfaces without damaging them once peeled off.

After you’ve prepared the space you’ll paint, put painter’s tape on areas you want to have clean, straight lines. Cut different sizes of tape to fit corners and smaller areas. Flatten the tape to remove air bubbles; doing so will keep the tape from peeling away. Wait for your coats of paint to completely dry before removing the tape to prevent cracking and uneven edges.

Stir Your Paint First

While most industrial paints are already pre-mixed, it is vital to still shake and stir your paint first before dipping your brush or roller in. Use a long stick to stir your paint mix gently. If you want a cleaner and splotch-free mix, use a paint-shaking device to do the job for you.

When stirring the paint, mix the bottom of the can to break down the pigments that may have clumped. Mixing your paint also pops any air bubbles that got trapped. You’ll have vibrant colors and a smoother paint application.

Paint jobs don’t have to be difficult or horrible! By preparing your surface properly and using these five hacks, you’ll avoid faulty pain finishes and have beautiful colored surfaces.
