4 Creative Ideas for Adding Storage at Home

Storage is everything when it comes to maximizing the limited space at home. When everything’s neatly kept, you reduce visual clutter, see more floor area, and by extension, make the room look a little bigger than it seems.

While built-in cabinets and wardrobes are good, you can add more in strategic corners in your home to maintain its airy, clean look. This is essential for starter homes like the townhouses in Amaris Homes because it will help you maximize the space better.

If you’re looking for creative solutions for more storage, here are some you can do all on your own:

Maximize Vertical Spaces

In most cases, the little corners above our heads are underused. Think spaces at the top of kitchen cabinets or drawers. These are excellent areas for storage. All you need to do is measure that corner and find storage solutions that will fit. These may include baskets, chests or trunks, and cubbies.

If the storage is too high, use this area for keeping rarely used objects so you won’t have to keep reaching whenever you need to retrieve stuff. The main principle here is to look up and see which vertical spaces are underutilized.

Go for Double-Purpose Furniture

Ottomans are excellent furniture pieces because they not only provide additional seating, but also create more storage space. The same goes for storage benches. The depth of these pieces provides a lot of room for keeping kids’ toys, books and magazines, gadgets, such as chargers and cables, and more.

Aside from double-purpose furniture, go for pieces that have built-in storage. For example, there are customized beds with built-in drawers on the sides of the structure. Some can be pulled up revealing a full-size closet. Choose these kinds of furniture to create more storage at your new residence in Amaris Homes.

Make Use of the Space Under the Stairs

The space under the stairs is a good corner for keeping stuff because it’s usually a high-traffic area at home. It’s the best place to store shoes in, as well as other items you often bring when going outside, say, your everyday bag, umbrella, or bike (if the space permits). Other things you can store under the stairs are unused books and important documents.

When building the storage, decide what kind will be best for keeping stuff organized. Should it be pull-out drawers, cubbies, or hooks and rods? Choose depending on the items you’ll store.

Organize Existing Storage Spaces

While your existing cabinets and wardrobes may offer storage, there’s a good chance that you’re not maximizing them. Most kitchen cupboards don’t maximize vertical space. Meanwhile, the drawers in wardrobes, where you put small clothes, may have gaps that aren’t being used. You could fit a lot more when you make the most of these spaces.

The best solution for this is to use organizers within these storage spaces. For example in cupboards, use door-mounted racks, lazy susan, hooks, and pull-out drawers. For your closet, include dividers, washable boxes, and baskets. Not only will this free up space, letting you store more stuff, but also make retrieving of stuff easier.
