5 Simple Ways to Maintain Your Home Privacy

Your home should your safest haven in the world. It is where you should feel comfortable and secure even if you are alone. It is also the place where you establish healthy and loving relationships with your family members or partner.

While homes are designed with features that boost privacy and security, there are times when bypassers invade the boundaries of your home. And because you’ll never know when people will break into your home to steal or hurt you, it is best to enhance your security and privacy. Here are five simple ways to do so:

Cover Your Windows

Windows are your eyes’ gateway to the outside world. They also provide people outside glimpses of your indoors. And while private villages such as Idesia Dasmariñas in Cavite provide safety features and monitor people entering and exiting the premises, it’s hard to say when people are taking advantage of your bare windows and checking which items they can steal.

Install blinds to keep your windows covered. Use the mechanism to open when you want to let sunlight and air inside, and close the blinds at nighttime. If you prefer something more stylish and less bulky, use sheer curtains. These blur the view of your home outside while still allowing an amount of sunlight to brighten your home.

Double Your Locks

It is basic manners to knock or press the doorbell before entering someone else’s home. But in the case of robbers and invaders, these manners won’t stop them from getting into your house or condo.

Enhance your security by doubling your door locks. Install bolts and chain locks above your door knob to heavily secure your front and back doors. As for your windows, place latches, folding locks, and window pin locks. Remember to check if all your locks are secured so you won’t have to worry about break-ins even if you are asleep or outside.

Construct a Green Wall

Plants add beauty and refreshing views to homes. They also provide privacy to your whole property strategically. Tall plants, such as bamboo grass and palm trees, are perfect for creating a green wall that hides most of your property from view. Place these by your gate and walls to create a plant fence.

If you’re after something more stylish and reminiscent of European-style gardens, create tall hedges. An easy way to “grow” high boxwood hedges is to place hedge flats or walls on your concrete walls. These are low-maintenance as they don’t need pruning and watering.

Maintain Your Garden

While backyard trees, tall plants, and high hedges are excellent for enhancing your privacy and safety, some people might hide among your overgrown greeneries and sneak in your home. Avoid this incident by maintaining your garden.

Prune thick shrubs, bushes, and trees to get rid of potential hiding spots for interlopers. Cut branches that have extended outside your property to keep thieves from having access to your second floor area. You’ll reduce the dangers of strangers entering your home while keeping your garden neat and well-maintained.

Keep a Guard Dog

Dogs aren’t called “man’s best friend” for nothing. They’re adorable and loyal companions that protect your home from invaders. Due to dogs being territorial and protective of their owners and space, you don’t have to train your fluffy guard to bark at trespassers.

However, not all dogs are suitable as guard dogs. Some of the best breeds you can get to accompany you are retrievers, rottweilers, shepherd dogs, pulis, and Aspins. Designate a spot for your dog’s kennel so they’ll have a nice place to sleep and eat. A happy and healthy dog means you’ll have a well-maintained guard for your home.
