5 Methods for Cleansing Your Crystals

There is a saying that goes, “the caretaker needs care and love too.” As we become available for our loved ones when they need emotional support, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. In these times when our health is at stake, it is crucial to watch over our wellness by eating healthy, exercising, taking breaks, and living life to the fullest.

New age wellness methods, such as healing crystals, help people detoxify toxic energy and attract positive chi into their lives and home. And because these beautiful stones absorb all the negativity, they’ll need cleansing and proper care to function properly for their next uses.

Think of taking care of your crystals as an extension of your self-care. With these methods, learn how to cleanse and take proper care of your precious crystals:

Soak in Saltwater

For centuries, salt has been used for cooking, cleansing rituals, and warding off evil spirits and negative energy. Saltwater is an excellent way to cleanse hard crystals such as amethyst and quartz stones. However, note that this cleansing method isn’t safe for all crystals. Stones that are porous, soft, or have water content (e.g. opal, hematite, malachite, selenite, and lapis lazuli) shouldn’t be cleaned with saltwater.

If you live near a beach, fill a small bowl or jar with seawater. But if your residence is far from the coastal areas, like Idesia Dasmariñas, mix sea salt, rock salt, or fine salt in a bowl of water. Submerge your crystals and leave them in your saltwater mixture for 10 to 12 hours. Throw away the water after to flush out the toxic energy your stones have absorbed.

Use Running Water

If you’ve run out of salt or saving the remainder for your next meal, use running water to clean your crystals. Water alone is said to neutralize the negative energy your crystals have absorbed. And because flowing streams and rivers aren’t always available, your faucet is a perfect alternative to cleanse your healing gemstones.

To do so, turn your faucet on and place your stones under the running water and clean each crystal for one to two minutes. The running water method is a quick way to clean your crystals in case you need them right away to soothe you from your triggers.

Smudge Them

No, this does not mean wiping your crystals clean with a cloth. Smudging refers to the method of lighting sage, palo santo, or incense sticks and using their smoke to purify spaces of stored negative energies. This method is also safe for detoxifying all types of crystals as smoke won’t damage their surfaces.

Light your sage bundle and hold it close to your crystal; circle your gemstone in the smoke for 20 to 30 seconds to thoroughly clean all areas. Use a feather to fan out smoke to cleanse larger and heavier crystal pieces. Since smudging causes smoke, do this method near an open window. You’ll let inharmonious vibrations and negative energy out of your house while you cleanse your crystals and get rid of unpleasant odors.

“Sing” to Them

Singing bowls are another popular tool for meditation. Its soothing sounds also purify healing crystals from all the bad energy that causes anxiety, stress, mood imbalance, and chronic pain. The vibrations from the bowl penetrate the crystals and break down the negative energy into “smaller pieces,” making it easier to clean them.

Place your gemstones around your bowl, then tap the bowl with your mallet three times to emit a ringing sound. Skim the mallet around the rim repeatedly to let it sing to your crystals. Do this for five to ten minutes to fully purify your crystals.

Recharge with Light

After cleansing your crystals with any of the four previous methods, it’s time to program your crystals by recharging them with sunlight or moonlight. The energy from these natural light sources reset your crystals for their next use.

Stones suitable for light recharging include agate, bloodstone, amethyst, quartz, and citrine. Set these on a table by 6 am and bring them in before 11 am. Doing so lets your crystals bathe in both sunlight and moonlight. Avoid leaving your stones exposed to natural light for too long as their colors may fade and lose their healing effects. Weathering and debris may also damage your stones when left outdoors.

Healing crystals ward off toxic vibes and attract positive energies and balance in your life. And because they absorb negative energies, they need cleansing and recharging to function properly and promote your wellness. Use these five methods to clean, purify, and take care of your crystals.
