6 Ways to Keep Your Home Protected While You are Away Meta Description: Aside from installing a home security system, here ar

When quarantine restrictions ease, will you take this time to go on a quick vacation outside the metro and hear the waves of the sea, the chirping of crickets, and the cool fresh air? Before packing your luggage and planning your itinerary, there’s one thing you have to plan first: how to protect your home while you’re away on vacation.

If you own a luxury house such as the ones for sale in the Victoria Heights subdivision by Property 101 Incorporated, for sure, you trust your subdivision’s top-notch security. But to be safer, most probably, you have installed different security alarms and cameras at home to double your safety and your belongings. But aside from having a home security system installed at home, here are simple yet effective things you can do to ensure that your luxury home is safe and sound once you come home from your vacation:

Don’t spread the word on social media.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to post about your excitement with your friends and followers on social media about your much-awaited vacation. However, sharing to the public that you’ll be away from home for some time can reveal that information to thieves who may take advantage of your absence and think of robbing your house.

If you really can’t stop yourself from posting about your trip until you return, make sure that you share your settings privately or “Friends” only. It is also best to remove geotags from your social media posts or switch off that feature on your phone.

Lock everything up.

Aside from locking the doors in your rooms and house, make sure that you lock your expensive things and documents inside a safe or a secure room in your house. If you have pet doors or mail slots, it is also recommended to lock them up to prevent burglars from finding other ways to unlock your door.

Make sure it looks like someone’s home.

To ward off suspecting people from taking advantage of your absence at home, you should make it look like someone’s home. You can do this by setting timers on lights, television, radio, or garden sprinkler at various times throughout the day.

Enlist your neighbors, family members, or trusted house help.

If no one will be left behind in your luxury home, enlist the help of your neighbors to check your house while you’re away. Ask them to call the authorities and inform you if they see anything suspicious on your property.

Do you have relatives who live within or near Victoria Heights in New Manila, Quezon City? If so, you can give them your spare key so that they can immediately access your home in case of an emergency. You can also request them to park a car they don’t often use in your garage to make it look like you’re home.

If you have house help that will stay in your home during your trip, remind them to get the mail daily from your mailbox to prevent your mail from piling up, which might indicate to outsiders that you are gone. Even though you trust your house helps, it won’t hurt to keep your rooms locked during your absence and store your valuables inside a safe or locked compartment.

Remove your spare key from your secret places.

If you always keep a spare key in a secret place within your property, make sure to remove them from your hiding spots when you go on vacation. Doing so is one way you can make sure that your home is safe when you are away.

Expert burglars can guess where you hide your spare keys, and if you don’t remove them, there’s a higher chance for them to succeed in stealing your valuables at home.

Unplug all appliances.

Aside from burglary, you want to make sure that your luxury home is safe from unwanted emergencies such as electric surges and wires. To prevent these accidents from happening while you are away, make sure to unplug your non-timed appliances. If you have smoke alarms and sprinkler systems, make sure that they are all working correctly. If a house sitter is left behind, remind them to be prepared in case of emergency. If possible, make sure that they have access to a fire extinguisher in your home.

Make sure that you are relaxed during your vacation. Apply these tips so that you won’t worry about your beautiful home while you’re away.
