Quick Guide on Dealing with a Noisy Neighbor

One of the most relaxing parts of the day is relaxing in bed after a nice hot bath. However, loud neighbors can compromise this simple routine. Having a noisy neighbor at night can be challenging, especially if you’ve been working long hours and just want to get a good night’s rest at the end of the day. Having restless nights can also affect your performance, so it is important to ensure that you have a comfortable environment where you can rest properly after a long day. Condos like Brizlane Residences offer condo units with excellent cuts and proper ventilation, ensuring that residents will always have a comfortable and cozy resting space. Having a loud neighbor should not be a reason for you to be unable to get the sleep you deserve. There are various techniques you can try to deal with a noisy neighbor.

How to Deal With a Noisy Neighbor

Dealing with a loud neighbor can be stressful, especially if you’ve spent a good deal of your energy on your work and just want to take the time to wind down and relax. If you have a loud neighbor, here are some measures you can take:

  • Try knocking on your neighbor's door. Oftentimes, knocking is enough to remind them to tone down the noise. This is a good and non-confrontative way to signal that they should reflect on their actions and establish a limit on how loud they can go without disturbing their neighbors.
  • Install sound-reducing house features. If reminding your neighbor about the noise is not enough for them to tone down the noise, you can try to minimize or block the noise by using noise-reducing home features such as door draft stoppers, rugs, and noise-reducing curtains. Door draft stoppers are initially used to prevent heat from coming in and keeping the room cooler when the air conditioner is on. You can utilize door draft stoppers to reduce the noise as they are excellent in blocking sound waves from outside. Rugs and carpets are excellent and cheap items that can absorb noise as well. You can also use noise-reducing curtains similar to the ones used in hotels to block the noise.
  • Add more furniture. If you intend to get new furniture, now may be the best time. Adding more furniture to your unit will prevent sound waves from bouncing around your room. Empty spaces allow more sound waves to bounce around.
  • Talk to your neighbor. One of the initial actions you can try when dealing with neighbors' activities that make you uncomfortable is talking to them. Talking to your neighbor will make them aware of their surroundings and be more sensitive about how their actions affect other neighbors. When talking to your neighbor, tell them politely how you feel and establish a common ground where they can still do what they want while you get the peace and quiet you deserve.
  • Talk to the management. If you have taken every measure and it is still not enough to reduce the noise, you might want to file a complaint to the management. Filing a complaint will let your neighbors know how serious the problem is, forcing them to reflect on their actions.

Every condo owner has the right to have fun. However, it should not come at the expense of other condo owners’ rights to have a comfortable and relaxing stay in their own home.
